OU Health Announces Carolyn Kloek as Chief Medical Officer

Carolyn Kloek, M.D., has been named as the inaugural Chief Medical Officer for OU Health. In this pivotal role, Kloek will be responsible for the performance of clinical services in terms of quality, safety, experience and efficiency. She will serve as the implementation arm and effector of clinical care outcomes for the organization, building foundational resources, acting as a catalyst and a resource for change, while simultaneously acting as a coach in a single, unified office. Kloek will start in this new position immediately, reporting into the clinical organizational structure within the Office of the Chief Operating Officer.

Kloek has served extensively in leadership roles, including Vice Chair of Quality and Innovation at Dean McGee Eye Institute where she has led initiatives pertaining to process, quality and safety in the surgical and ambulatory space. Kloek’s work includes developing data streams to measure important patient experience, safety and outcome parameters, as well as implementing process improvements. Kloek has also served as Senior Vice President of Clinical Strategy and Integration at OU Health since 2019.

Kloek received her bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and molecular biology from Dartmouth College and her Doctor of Medicine from Harvard Medical School. She completed an internship in internal medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, followed by an ophthalmology residency at the Harvard Ophthalmology Residency Training Program. She joined the Dean McGee Eye Institute faculty in January 2019 as a comprehensive ophthalmologist and cataract surgeon where she also serves as a Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology. Kloek speaks extensively on clinical outcomes and is a published physician scientist in the field of ophthalmology.

Kloek has held numerous leadership roles throughout her career, including Clinical Director of Massachusetts Eye and Ear Longwood, a multi-specialty ophthalmology clinic and operating room; Chief of the Division of Ophthalmology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts; and Associate Chief of Ophthalmology for Massachusetts Eye and Ear. Kloek served on the faculty at Harvard Medical School for 12 years.
