About William Ertl

William J.J. Ertl, MD, is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon with OU Health Physicians, specializing in orthopedic trauma. Dr. Ertl earned his medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine in Miami, FL. He completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, NY and a fellowship in orthopedic traumatology at Harborview Medical Center at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA.

Dr. Ertl has fostered the establishment of the amputee clinic at OU Health, where he leads an interdisciplinary team of practitioners in prosthetics, physical therapy, and nursing. His clinical research interests center on the outcomes of trauma surgery, limb amputation and reconstruction, specifically the osteomyoplastic amputation reconstruction, and collaboration with basic scientists investigating bone healing.
