The insane wait time for being seen should be considered illegal. We arrived at 11:15pm and it was after 2 a.m. before my son got the i.v. port he needed only to be sent right back to the waiting room to wait even longer. We were eventually put into an exam room (more like a holding room) only to FINALLY be told around 4:30 A.M. that they were going to admit him "overnight" and that he'd probably be released after lunch "the next day". I honestly think this was a self preserving move. My son needed the i.v. fluids as soon as we got there but it wasn't until nearly the time they decided to admit him before they got him an i.v. bag because "they wanted to give him a chance to drink water willingly". Yet another self preserving excuse. So then, my husband went ahead and stayed with my son and the nurse did NOT listen to my son at all. My son told the nurse "Don't give me insulin until after I've eaten". He knows this is how WE do things because he is unable to predict how much he can eat at a given time. Sometimes it's more, most of the time it's less. This lead to the nurse giving him too much insulin (because he wasn't able to eat everything) like he tried to warn her and so she then gave him cookies. When we got him home his blood sugar was nearly 500 because of this. Now, let's talk about parking. Y'all have a giant children's hospital and VERY limited parking. When I was returning to the hospital with fresh clothes etc for my son, I spent over half an hour looking for parking. The valet was more than over flowing / backed up and the entire self parking area was full to a point that all of us that were searching for spots were having to inch by each other around the parked cars. I still hadn't found parking when my husband called and said that my son was being discharged. So I ended up just driving right back home instead of being able to come in and speak with medical staff / ask questions etc. While I'm glad and grateful his ketones were finally reduced, it was only a temporary fix. As soon as we were home his ketones went right back up and there was no way in heck I was going to take him back to OU!!!! Also, the discharge paperwork did not include include guidance on how to KEEP his ketones down while he is sick. And while we were at the hospital, he should have been tested for flu, RSV, etc but we were told to take him to the pediatrician to do it. Ummm, WE WERE ALREADY AT THE HOSPITAL. Why not go ahead and do it so we all (my family and the staff) can make the best plan of action for my son's care. Don't even get me started on the inaccuracies I found in the doctors notes / summaries. Yes, I know how to read them. I'm not the uneducated bumpkin this hospital seems to expect. I can honestly say this place is a freaking circus.

What I liked was the attention that we were given in the help that we had to have with them, I really liked it.

Dr. Shah is always patient and kind with us. We've seen her many years and just appreciate her knowledge and her patience, and the way she understands family needs, and then explains medical things as well.
