About Betsy Maguire
Betsy Maguire, LCSW, is a licensed clinical social worker with OU Health and practices in the Psyciatry Clinic in downtown Oklahoma City.
Betsy earned her Master of Social Work degree from The Catholic University of America, Washington, DC, and specialized in clinical work in Health and Mental Health care settings. Subsequently, she earned a Master of Science degree from Wheelock College Graduate School, Boston, MA, with a focus on counseling children, adolescents, and adults in health care settings. Betsy has been a licensed social worker in Oklahoma since 2003 and an Accredited Professional Social Worker (NSWQB), Republic of Ireland since 2002.
Betsy has had more than 35 years of professional experience working with children, adolescents, adults, families and support groups in health and mental health care settings in the U.S. and Canada. In addition to talk therapy, Betsy believes in the power of self-expression for healing and uses expressive interventions with clients, including therapeutic art, sandplay therapy, journaling, bibliotherapy, and play therapy to enhance self-understanding and build strong coping skills to facilitate adaptation, improve well-being and problem-resolution.
Betsy and her 5-year-old Sheltie-girl, Skylar, are associate members with Therapy Dogs International; Betsy is a Registered Handler and Skylar is a Certified Therapy Dog. Previously, when Betsy was in private practice, Skylar attended client sessions and provided Animal Assisted Therapy to facilitate improvements in client psychosocial adjustment and overall well-being.
