Stephenson Cancer Center Specialist Receives Prestigious Innovation Award

OKLAHOMA CITY --The Society of Gynecologic Oncology Honors and Awards Committee has selected Joan L. Walker, M.D., as the 2020 recipient of its Innovation Award.
The Innovation Award recognizes exceptionally creative thinkers whose work has made significant impact toward understanding gynecologic cancers. The award also acknowledges innovative approaches to the prevention, diagnosis or treatment of these cancers. Walker was cited for accomplishments that have saved countless lives and cleared the way for ongoing clinical cancer research. Additionally, Walker’s influence has guided career paths for future generations of researchers and healthcare practitioners.
Specializing in gynecologic oncology practice at Stephenson Cancer Center, Walker is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology, with additional certifications in gynecologic oncology and palliative care. She completed a fellowship at the University of California, Irvine, and earned her medical degree at the University of California, Los Angeles. Walker’s areas of expertise include ovarian, endometrial, cervical, vulvar and vaginal cancers, as well as gestational trophoblastic disease, among others. Her name appears regularly in publications of Best Doctors and Top Doctors.
