OU Tulsa's Impact Team Honored at Local Mental Illness Alliance Awards Ceremony

TULSA -- OU-TU School of Community Medicine’s Integrated Multidisciplinary Program of Assertive Community Treatment (IMPACT) team was recently honored by the National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI)-Tulsa.

OU IMPACT is a multidisciplinary team that provides intensive treatment to persons with chronic mental illnesses. The program strives to increase overall health and wellness in the Tulsa community by providing care to Tulsa’s most vulnerable residents. Among other things, the program helps people learn how to advocate for themselves with greater confidence. The program also teaches community psychiatrists and law enforcement officers and officials to understand symptoms and signs that may indicate a need for professional help.

The nomination was submitted by a family that had received care from the IMPACT team, which won the award in the clinician category for its efforts to meet the healthcare needs of community members.

“We are extremely honored to be receiving an award from NAMI-Tulsa,” said Cindy Hickl, team leader of OU IMPACT. “Continued collaboration of our programs can only help strengthen the Tulsa community.”

NAMI-Tulsa is associated with the National Alliance of Mental Illness and each year honors Tulsa community groups that are champions for mental health.
